Cross Country Skiing
We recommend adrenaline lovers to practice cross-country skiing, which is gaining more and more followers. Being a demanding sport, downhill skiing requires a good skiing experience. Special equipment is required. Cross-country skiing offers the opportunity to explore the valleys and steep slopes visited in summer, which have a different face this season.

Route: Zārnești - Colțul Chiliilor - Danciului Bridge - Craiului Resting Place
Route intended for ski touring, with a level of difficulty ranging from easy to medium and exposure with a moderate risk of avalanches (on certain slopes, sufficiently steep, the snow layer is moderately stabilized; elsewhere it is stable).
The route initially follows the marked hiking trail with blue markings, up to the Chiliilor Saddle, then the descent is on a slope with a medium level, through the Danciului Bridge; the last part being a flat terrain area suitable for "cross-country" skiing.
Route: Botorog's Fountain - Zārnești Gorges - Curmătura Chalet and return
The route is dedicated to initiating ski touring and follows the mathematical path of access to the Curmătura Chalet through the Zārnești Gorges; the slope having an inclination of approximately 30 degrees only in a few sections.
The route presents a moderate risk of avalanches only in the Zārnești Gorges sector, where there is a possibility of snow masses moving from the lateral slopes.
The duration of the route to Curmătura Chalet is approximately 2.30 hours to 3 hours.
Route: Botorog's Fountain - Zārnești Gorges - La Table - Joaca Saddle - Folea House - Māgura Village - Botorog's Fountain
This is a hiking trail, dedicated to initiating ski touring, with a medium level of difficulty.
The trail has a duration of approximately 5-6 hours and initially follows the road towards Vladușca Valley, then the course of the valley up to Poiana Vladușca, and from the "La Table" area, it continues with the red cross marking towards Peștera Village, Māgura Village, and back to Botorog's Fountain.
It is worth mentioning that from Mosorel Guesthouse, the descent goes directly to the Prapastii road (Raul Mare Valley).
There may be a moderate risk of avalanches (on certain slopes, sufficiently steep, with the snow layer being moderately stabilized; elsewhere it is stable) in Poiana Vladușca, Joaca Saddle, and the Zārnești Gorges sector, where there is a possibility of snow masses moving from the lateral slopes.
Route: Tamașului Valley - Tamașul Mare Peak - Curmātura Foii Saddle - Plaiul Mare - Tamașului Valley
The route is intended for ski touring enthusiasts, with a medium/expert level of difficulty, due to the off-piste skiing regime and the presence of areas with low vegetation, deciduous forests, and coniferous forests.
The initial part of the trail follows the forest road until entering Boșii Valley, then the ascent follows the valley, after which it gains technical characteristics towards Runcu Ridge, from where it continues with yellow band markings to reach Tamașul Ridge, culminating in Tamașul Mare Peak (alt. 1735m).
The descent is initially easy, but due to alpine vegetation and a slope with an inclination of approximately 30 degrees, it becomes of medium difficulty. At the intersection with the blue trail, the direction of travel will be towards Plaiul Mare Ridge, then following the existing old road, it continues towards Boșii Valley and then the forest road in Tamașului Valley.
The duration of the route is approximately 5/6 hours.
The risk of avalanches is moderate (on certain slopes, sufficiently steep, with the snow layer being moderately stabilized; elsewhere it is stable).
